My apartment was broken into tonight, but they didn't take anything?

Update:
So what happened is, today I worked a 14 hour shift. In Bay Ridge, so it took me an hour to get there and a bit longer to get back. I left my apartment around 9am and got back around 1:20am.
My apartment is a railroad, meaning that there's 4 rooms connected in order. My room is directly connected to my roommate's room which is directly connected to the common room which is directly connected to the kitchen. My room has an entrance from the hallway, the kitchen has an entrance from the hallway, and the kitchen has a door to the backyard. My room is currently seperated from the rest of the apartment since my roommate has so much stuff, we blocked the door between the two rooms. He also usually keeps both his doors locked.
So I came home, went into my room and dropped my bag and coat off. I went through the hallway to the kitchen, unlocked the door, and found out that the chain was on. I never seen the chain used before. I called out for Steve, knocked on the door, tried reaching for the chain. I figured he had his ear phones on or was asleep. Went back to my room to check if he was on Google Talk, he wasn't. I knocked on the door loudly between are two rooms and called his name, no answer. I called him, he didn't pick up, I left a message.
I went back to the kitchen door and tried again to call him, knock, and reach for the chain. I realised I could probably unscrew it. I got my screw driver, unscrewed it, and went in. I set down the screws and screwdriver and then noticed the backdoor was opened a few inches and the ladder propped against it and the litter box in front of it were shoved out of the way. Also, one of my roommate's two cats was gone.
I debated briefly on whether I should get out and call the cops or shut it. I shut it. I noticed that the deadbolt was mangled, so I shoved the ladder and litter box back up against it. I looked around and everything seemed as normal and in place as ever. None of my roommate's clutter or work stuff has been gone through. Even the divider he put up between the common room and the kitchen so that he didn't have to be disturbed by the people I show the apartment to was in place (yeah, he's that kind of weird antisocial jerk.) His room was still locked and it didn't look messed with. There was no way to get to my room except through his or through the hallway, so it was completely untouched.
Then I called 911 and retreated back to my room.
After an hour a cop still hasn't come. I called the precinct directly and was told that they were really busy tonight. I mentioned that it's not a huge deal, but I have a missing cat and I'm kinda afraid to go outside to look for it or go to sleep.
Then I decided to just grab a flashlight and look for the cat.
I put the other cat in the bathroom so it wouldn't to get out. Went outside, had a look around. I saw a cat that could have been my roommate's, but it ran away when I called the cat's name. I gave up and turned back to the doorway when I noticed the fucking prybar neatly placed against the door frame. It was made from rebar. Also, the actual bolt of the deadbolt was lying on the ground.
I went back inside to hear a cat meowing, and it was Nina, the cat I was looking for. Must have darted in behind my back.

So I strongly believe that I came home as the burglars were in the apartment. I don't think _anything_ was touched really, and only one of the cats got out. The other cat that didn't got out came through the kitchen doorway when I was unscrewing the chain and also tried to go outside while I was in the kitchen. So I'm assuming I must have startled away the burglars before they got a chance to do anything after putting the chain on. But I didn't hear _anything_.

So now it's been almost 2 hours, and still no cops. I know, it's fucking Bushwick.

I'm strongly thinking that this might be a reason to move back to PA, which has been on my mind anyhow.

Update 2:
Cops came by, cool guys. They told me basically there was nothing that can be done, and even my roommate would have to file a report if he had wanted to. I expected that, I mostly wanted them to be aware and come check it out so I could look for the cat. But they told me that crime has really been increasing in Bushwick, especially this area. A lot of white kids are getting jacked at gunpoint. And they told me to move to Bay Ridge, they wouldn't live here if they were being paid $2000. This made up my mine, I'm moving out.
Possibly back to PA...

The good news is they didn't get to my room at all. They broke in through the back door. The apartment is a railroad, so there's a whole locked room between the back and my room.

Now I'm waiting for the cops, who are taking their good sweet time, before even going back to the back of the apartment. One of the cat's got out, so I have to look for it, I just don't want to do it until a cop is here. =\

Yeah, there's nothing in the bathroom or kitchen worth stealing. Not even my lone Brooklyn Brown Ale. My roommate has the common room cluttered with his shit though, and it looks like they didn't even bother looking through it. I don't get it at all. Basically they fucked up the deadbolt, made one of the two cats run away, and made me scared.

Ick...I so feel for you. I'm sorry you went through that.

I lived in Ridgewood and my apartment was broken into *twice*. I should of gotten the fuck outta dodge after the first time but I bought new locks and installed jimmy bars.

Still no good.

6 months later my apartment was pillaged again. Lost about $3,000 worth of stuff total. I didn't have renter's insurance the first time. Lesson learned.

The cops are great though aren't they? The ones who came to my house and the detective who worked on my case were all very warm and funny. They helped me calm down tremendously.

I hope you find a good safe place soon.

Thanks, but honestly it wasn't that bad. I mean, nothing looked like it was even touched other than the deadbolt on the backdoor and the chain on the kitchen door.
I'm honestly thinking about staying. I'm like 50/50. My landlord really wants me to stay and I think he's willing to make concessions of some sort to get me to stay. I've been on the fence about starting a new lease or not, and it's been really stressing me out not spending money so I can make sure I can afford it, and having such trouble with the roommate who's moving out and finding a roommate to move in (all because of the roommate who's moving out.) The break-in was bound to happen, the door is an obvious weak point. It just made me ask myself why bother with all this stress and work trying to stay in this place when it's so easy to break into.

I am looking at other places, mostly sublets in Bay Ridge close to work. But if my landlord makes a convincing arguement I'll stay. I know he's going to fix everything that needs to be fixed as soon as my roommate is actually out of the apartment (my roommate refuses to allow work crews in to "bother" him unless they can do everything that needs to be done in ONE DAY), so I'm just going to insist he installs a better door and door frame and a light out there.
